Use this free GEO checker to see whether AI search and assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google can find, read and cite your website. Paste a URL and get a score out of 100, with each problem explained and the fix for it.

Agents: run the same check with the `check_geo` tool of Lifto's MCP server ([Connect](https://liftoapp.com/connect)).

## What the GEO checker looks at

- **AI search crawlers can reach the page**: If robots.txt turns away OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot or Googlebot, those assistants cannot cite the page at all.
- **Content readable without JavaScript**: Most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript. A page that only fills in after it loads looks empty to them.
- **Allowed in search results**: A noindex tag keeps the page out of Google and Bing, and out of the AI answers built on them.
- **Structured data (JSON-LD)**: Organization and Product markup hands assistants your name, category and price as facts instead of guesses.
- **Title and meta description**: The first lines an assistant reads about a page, and often the ones it quotes.
- **HTTPS, canonical URL and one main heading**: The basics that tell a crawler which page is the real one and what it is about.
- **Sitemap, link previews and page language**: How crawlers find the rest of your pages, and how links to you look when someone shares them in a chat.
- **llms.txt and a markdown version**: Newer conventions that give agents a map of your site and a cheaper way to read it. Support varies, so they count for little.

## What is GEO?

GEO, generative engine optimisation, is making a website easy for AI search and assistants to find, read and cite. When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity for a tool like yours, the answer comes from pages those systems could fetch and understand.

It overlaps with SEO more than it differs. Most of what stops an assistant citing a page also stops Google ranking it: content that only appears after JavaScript runs, crawlers blocked in robots.txt, a page marked noindex, or no clear title and description.

## How the score works

Each check carries a share of 100 points. A pass earns its full share, a warning half, and a failure none. Three failures cap the score at 35 however good the rest is, because each keeps a page out of AI answers by itself: a noindex tag, AI search crawlers blocked in robots.txt, and a page with nothing to read without JavaScript.

Blocking AI training crawlers such as GPTBot or CCBot does not lower the score. That is your call, and it does not stop AI search from citing you. The report lists them so you know where you stand.

No score guarantees that an assistant will mention your product. What the checker can tell you is whether anything is stopping one from doing so.

## How to get cited by AI search

Fix what the report flags, starting at the top: it is ordered by how much each problem costs you. Then give assistants something worth citing - a clear page about what your product does and who it is for, real pricing, and mentions on other sites they already trust.

Launch platforms are one of those sites. Every approved product on Lifto gets a permanent, crawlable product page with a do-follow link to its website, and the page has a markdown version AI agents can read directly.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is this GEO checker free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no paid tier. To keep it that way, each visitor can run 20 new checks an hour, and a page checked in the last 10 minutes is shown from that check.

### What does the GEO checker look at?

The page you enter, as a crawler that does not run JavaScript sees it, plus the site's robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt. It checks whether AI search crawlers are allowed in, whether the content is in the HTML, and the title, description, structured data and other signals assistants read.

### Does blocking GPTBot stop ChatGPT from citing my site?

No. GPTBot collects training data. ChatGPT search uses OAI-SearchBot, and pages a user asks ChatGPT to open are fetched by ChatGPT-User. The same split exists for Claude (ClaudeBot for training, Claude-SearchBot and Claude-User for search) and Perplexity.

### Do I need an llms.txt file?

It helps some agents and costs minutes to write, but no AI company guarantees it reads one, so the checker counts it for little. Content in the HTML and crawlers allowed in robots.txt matter far more.

### Why does my site score low when it looks fine in a browser?

A browser runs your JavaScript; most AI crawlers do not. If your page is a single-page app that builds itself in the browser, the HTML they receive can be nearly empty. Server-side rendering or prerendering fixes it.

### Can I check my site again after fixing it?

Yes. Results are kept for 10 minutes, so wait a few minutes after a change and check again.
